Reclassification of Agryasangraha (foremost substances) in Ayurveda w.s.r. to Srotas (Body Channels)

Abstract

The concept of Srotas is unique contribution in the understanding of anatomy of human body. These Srtotas are classified as Sukshma (subtle) which are innumerable and Sthula (gross) which are numerable. Acharyas have described certain anatomical origin for each of the Antarmukha Srotas as their moolasthanas. Acharyas also described srotodushti karana (causative factors), lakshana (signs and sympotms), and  the dravyas for srotodushti chikitsa (treatment). The agrya is the foremost or best among substances of different qualities, action and effects. The chapter Agryasangraha is the collection of the foremost substances. Agryasangraha have  different groups like basis of action on Dosha, Dhatu , Mala, G.I.T., respiratory system, Prabhava, Cardio-Vascular system, Reproductive system, Urinary system, Nervous System, Skin diseases, E.N.T. disorders, Haemorrhoid disease, Usage in Panchkarma, long term usage, Aetiological factors for the diseases, Ahara-vidhi, Rasa, Effect on Mana, Related to Milk, Related to Sadavrutta, Related to Vyadhi Sutra, Related to chikitsa chatuspada and Related to Desha. Here an attempt is made to classify  only Ahar and Oshadha Agrya dravyas acting on Antarmukh Srotas in  body i.e. Pranavaha, Udakavaha, Annavaha, Rasavaha, Raktavaha, Mamsavaha, Medovaha, Asthivaha, Majjavaha, Shukravaha, Purishvaha, Mutravaha, Swedvaha, Doshavaha and multiple Srotas from groups. The ancient Acharyas mentions  different Ahara and Oshadha dravyas for different diseases. Here try to corelate Dravya and their related involved Srotas. This corelation will helps in understanding the Srotas related diseases and their treatment protocol from Agrya sangraha.
