Abstract
The transition from academic learning to professional practice remains a significant challenge in art and design education, where students are expected to develop not only creative and technical competencies but also the practical, interpersonal, and professional skills required within the industry. While educational institutions provide structured theoretical and studio-based learning, opportunities for students to engage with real-world professional environments are often limited or inconsistently integrated into the curriculum. This creates a potential gap between academic preparation and industry expectations.
This study examines the role of industry–academia collaboration in strengthening art and design education, with particular emphasis on internships, live industry projects, professional mentorship, guest interactions, and industry participation in curriculum development. From an educational administration perspective, the study explores how institutions can effectively establish, manage, and evaluate such collaborations to enhance student learning and professional readiness. It further investigates the perceptions of students, educators, and industry professionals regarding the effectiveness of existing collaborative practices and identifies the administrative challenges that may limit their implementation.
The study aims to develop an understanding of how structured and sustainable industry partnerships can contribute to a more practice-oriented model of art and design education. By examining the relationship between institutional administration, curriculum planning, industry engagement, and employability, the research seeks to propose an administrative framework that can facilitate stronger connections between academia and professional practice. The findings may contribute to the development of more responsive art and design education systems that prepare graduates to transition confidently and effectively into professional practice..
