Abstract

This research examines the role of social media in promoting and evolving Kathak, a revered Indian classical dance form, in today’s digital scenario. With platforms like Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, Kathak practitioners and institutions have extended their reach, allowing for a broader audience beyond traditional cultural settings. This study aims to explore how social media is used to engage audiences, the balance between cultural preservation and innovation and the challenges faced in maintaining authenticity amidst commercialization. A survey-based methodology gathers insights from Kathak artists, enthusiasts and audiences, focusing on content creation practices, engagement trends and the perceived impact of digital platforms on Kathak. Findings are expected to reveal key opportunities and constraints in the digital promotion of Kathak, providing a framework for sustaining its cultural integrity while embracing modern outreach techniques.
